When the little becomes big
Going to make this a very short blog today because while it is nothing for me to write, I get so much pleasure out of writing and delving into the soul of the human race daily. But you know what? Sometimes the littlest thing can produce a sense of an ahh ha moment and a sense of understanding and clarity.
Living through difficult seasons of life has a way of quietly changing how a day is measured.
Things that once felt small can suddenly feel very big.
Cooking a simple meal.
Driving through town to run a small errand.
Stopping somewhere just to look around and watch life moving along.
These are the kinds of things most people do without much thought. But when life is asking more of us than usual, even simple plans can require energy, patience, and determination.
Some days the smallest tasks can feel like mountains.
Not because we lack willingness, but because we may be carrying more than we once did. Such as my self who’s carrying so much in her pocket so to speak, that it all fully weighs me down, even the small task seem overwhelming.
Last night I had a horrible night of sleep yet last night when I went to bed I went with the intentions today of cooking me a scrumptious dinner tonight however now that task looks so daunting when in fact it’s just a little job cooking for one. Like right now I get great joy in writing this blog to you all but in fact this afternoon I am very very tired thinking a nap would be energizing to me. Yet here I sit writing out my souls thoughts and view on how to tackle unexpected mountains and valleys.
“When life becomes heavier, the ordinary begins to matter more.”
Yet the I think perhaps this can get done and I really think on it maybe, like an unexpected second wind so to speak will come over me; and I’ll find that the little things are in fact little and not ginormous like they seem right now. I just need to sit back and take a different perspective of it. That is when I generally find some Joy, I did not know it was sneaking up on me.
And yet when it does sneak up on me, something interesting happens in the middle of that struggle. When one of those small things actually does happen — when dinner gets made, when your blog gets posted, when you take a short drive around town, when you manage to step outside and see the world beyond your door — those moments can feel unexpectedly meaningful.
The same little things that once felt like big tasks suddenly become big joys.
The Quiet Victory of Ordinary Moments. They remind you that life is still happening all around you — and that you are still part of it.
